Ohmeed

The Name

Inspired by the products that I create and use on a daily basis, it was time to name the company that inspired me just as much.

My name, Amal means hope. The Urdu/Persian word for hope is ohmeed. My grandfather suggested the name to my parents, and growing up I loved knowing that he essentially named me. Creating and designing has always been my outlet, especially through the hard-times. The one thing I always told myself, was to just have hope. And so far so good.

I love that all of our products carry the value of sustainability, from the fabrics, FSC paper goods, remnant Italian leather, and brass goods that are durable and re-useable. The hope is that by being environmentally responsible, we are doing our part to protect and preserve our planet Earth.

design + Inspiration

For quite sometime, I have had this fascination with archways. Romans perfected the structure, for the use of aqueducts, and the simple but elegant structure holds so much meaning. For me, the idea that one can move through the archway into a space beyond, is timeless and beautiful. And that was the inspiration for the logo. I knew what elements I wanted, an archway, clean lines, and some element of the origins of my name.

sketches

Some of the sketches of my exploring the logo. It was hours of just drawing the same element in different arrangements until the very last arrangement I tired. It was very much a eureka moment!

The sketch on the bottom right was the last formation I drew, and the “that’s it” moment I had that lead to the final design.

Digitize and colors

After I figured out the rough sketch for the logo, I scanned and imported into Illustrator and traced over the lines, adjusting proportions as I went. The final logo and its coordinating details can be found below.

I am pretty pleased with the final results. Knowing me and how impactful color is, those might change over time, but this was not only a meaningful project but a fun one too!
