Brand Design: Southside Wares
When the lovely Claire of Southside Wares (formally Southside Vintage) announced on her IG Stories she was looking for a graphic designer to rebrand, I knew I had to submit a proposal. As a local and a fan of her store (her vintage finds are amazing, and she is carbon positive; she buys carbon offsets for all orders), it was one of those "how neat would it be to meet someone I admire". There is always a precaution that meeting people you admire from afar, could end up horribly because those people end up letting you down, but Claire is nothing short of sweet or amazing.
When I sat down with Claire over coffee we discussed what her needs were, and from talking to her I could just see how positive and warm she is. We talked about her interest, what she wanted her branding to convey, and through the conversation, landed on the idea of a rainbow. Using a questionnaire to dive even deeper, I presented Claire with a couple of mood-boards, and she choose a direction I called Boho- Natural.
Keywords: eclectic, patterns, global, free organic shapes
Aesthetic: hand-drawn line work, soft edges, watercolors
The key words and aesthetic goals were always a the top of my mind, along with the key design element - rainbow. So I started sketching.
Following Claire on her social media profiles got me really inspired, as I learned she is into good energy, healing stones and the stars. I got inspired and threw in a new key word: agate.
Claire ended up picking a few of her favorites, and in the end agate ended up becoming the final source of inspiration.
In the end, these two final designs were presented. Both were inspired by the rainbow theme and the agate, hand drawn, with soft edges. Font selection were minimal nodding to mid-century modern. Opt. 1 color tones were earthy, with Opt.2 being inspired by healing rocks and their healing powers.
The Final Design
In the end, we merged both the designs the come up with the final. We took the artwork and layout from Opt.2 and combined it with the font selection from Opt. 1 to come up with the final design!
Handsdown, this has become one of my favorite projects to date. Claire was a dream of a client (thank you, lovely) and I am grateful to have been able to create something for her.
